Interview with Brad (drums) and Kez (guitar) from Trenchhead

1. hey bro it's awesome to get to interview you for your band trenchhead which is fairly new to the uk scene so first off, tell us the bands brief history.
We started off as a 2 man grindcore project between the old vocalist james oldman and Me on drums. I couldn't even PLAY drums at the time hahaha! After deciding to take it to a serious level we brought in Kez on guitar and ex bassist Chris (who subsequently left not long after) and began to write the first songs. Feeling that a second guitarist was required we brought in Louis Jodelko and new bassist Gunner. We played a good many shows for over two years before vocalist James had to leave due to unforseen circumstances and current vocalist Jamie was enlisted. And with the full line up set we have been leaving our mark on venues ever since.

2. you guys basically use beatdowns but throw in occasional melodic parts as well so describe your music in your own words and what bands influence you guys?
We have a BIG range of influences ranging from UK Grime, Jazz and Hardcore to the most obscene Goregrind and Brutal Death Metal. We'd like to think we are a groove driven death metal with a hardcore vibe.

3. the vocals are high and low gutturals combined with squeals right? waking the cadaver uses the same combination so are you influenced by them at all?
While we've been going longer than WTC and using the technique longer than them, we are fans and friends of the band and so probably do draw some influence from them. They are really doing well for themselves at the moment and we wish them all the best for the future!

4. as for the guitar riffs you play breakdowns, fast parts and some various parts like guttural secrete does so describe your guitar sound and who influences it.
It's very hard to pinpoint or describe how we write our riffs, but it generally starts with either me or brad or louis having an idea about a section and we all throw our ideas together and see how it goes haha there are far too many bands, a lot of US death metal bands, that influence us in our writing to even begin mentioning!

5. i love your breakdown parts the most so who comes up with all of those?
Everyones made up at least one or two and one point or another, we like to mix it up and it gets everyone going live! We get a lot of beatdown influences from Dying Fetus, Skinless and tons of hardcore bands.

6. what kind of releases will you have in the future? do you have any merch coming out maybe?
We've just recorded our debut ep Feasting on Visceral Detritus and are waiting on the mix to come back to us for pressing! As for merch we have two new t shirt designs being drawn up as we speak which hopefully will be available very soon!

7. as for the uk scene are there any other good bands coming out now a days?
Yeah its becoming REALLY strong, theres so much rising talent and we feel honoured to be friends with these bands making a name on the scene at the moment. Bands like : Ingested, Dead Beyond Buried, Annotations of an Autopsy, Crepitation, Odium Incarnate, Infected Disarray, Twitch of the Death Nerve, Pointdown, Sullen, Hunting Humans and Loads more, keep you eye out for the rising UK scene!

8. what kind of gear do you guys use? And in general how does writing songs work?
We use Schecter and Jackson guitars and Ibanez basses with Crate amps, and i'll soon be getting either a Peavey or Engl amp.
As for drums I use a 7 piece Pearl Export Drumkit alongside a shit load of Sabian Zildjan and Paiste Cymbals, Pearl Eliminator Shifter Pedals and DDrum Triggers and Module.
When we write songs we start off with an idea, often between Me and Brad writing some guitar and drum parts which once recorded are brought to the rest of the band to add their own ideas to shape what will hopefully become a song.

9. what bands have you been into recently?
Haha a lot! we've been listening to: The Partisan Turbine, The Black Dahlia Murder, Viral Load and The Faceless to name but a few!

thanks again for the interview, is there anything you would like to add?
Thanks a lot for the interview! We are honoured to be a part of your Zine! Keep an eye out for some of our UK friends coming up soon! And big up our crew B6K who come to every show and destroy the venue! Hopefully we'll get to come and play for you someday soon! Peace out bro!
