1. Hey John!! I'm so surprised that you, Shawn and Todd of inhuman dissiliency and tip teamed up and started new band sphacelate!!! So tell us a brief bio of the band!! Also, tell us who plays which instruments and vocals in detail bro!!!
seiji my man!..im so excited to get to shoot the shit with ya here...thanks for the opportunity!!...Yea man, as you know we got shawn (guitar and vox) an todd (drums) from inhuman, and tip on guitar too, as well as myself on bass... i guess it started when i met todd at machine heads tattoo (yes i know, a shameless plug!) when he started his work there...i was a bit of a local and we just got to know each other and became pals... from there i met shawn and tip when i tagged along to afew inhuman shows in ohio...so ya know...when you are stuck in a car you get to talkin right?...and i think i charmed everybody with my tales of sexual disfunction and masturbation, and the rest as they say is history!...soon after, me and shawn got together and wrote some tunes and the rest of the band just fell into place!
2. Describe the band sound!! You guys really sound heavy as fuck with breakdowns plus gore gurgles!! Also, what bands influence sphacelate to create your songs and music? What's the concept of the band?
thanks!...wells, shawn an me wrote the demo tracks together with the drum machine pretty much as an experiment to see what would happen and if we could work together ya know?...so from the start we knew we wanted to slam...but also as we got into it we decided to mess with some little creepy sections and soundclip layering to go for the real horror vibe, and really try to capture the films we love...we all grew up on horror flicks so it just seems natural that it would come out in our music...So in a way, as goofy as it sounds...when we are working on something i cant help but think of pink floyd...not in terms of sound or style our anything like that, but how the music, lyrics, and soundclips gotta fit together to flesh out narrative...know what i mean? they were the masters of the concept album...i mean look at a record like the final cut. really brilliant!!...anyways, we are writing as a band and a unit now, with everybody adding their own touches, so expect some big surprises in the future!!
3. Shawn spews killer gurgles maybe like he does in inhuman dissiliency. So what are remarkable points of his gurgles? Also, who influences his vocals style?
Man i fucking love shawns gurgles!...it sounds like something crawling out of the goddamn grave!!...we basically decided to have shawn lay the vocals down so we could get the tunes out there and see if we could snag us a full time vocalist...(we are still lookin by the way, so if your interested drop us a line!)...i know when we were discussing what vocal styles would fit, saprogenic popped up...we all really dig them vocals, and we decided that whatever we did had to be really fuckin low and sick to go with the horror feel right?...so we locked shawn away for afew days, and he splattered them gurgles down...i was really impressed, and truth be told i wouldnt mind one damn bit if he ended up doin them full time...guess we will see what happens!
4. The guitars sound very cool. They are like heavy chunky and with slam riffs!!! So I know Shawn really dig these kinds of riffs, so how about tip the other guitarist? Tell us his playing style? Also, how's the harmony both Shawn and tip create? What bands can you compare it with?
thanks man!...we decided to tune down pretty low for this one...to get that real sludgy, swampy feel...and we wanted to really thicken up the sound right, so in came tip!...and hes such a nice guy man...a true metalhead!...i just know that fucking kid is snapping his neck headbanging in the car on his way to work every morning...thats just the kind of guy he is!!...we bust his balls abit cause hes a good couple years younger than us, but its all in good fun...hes like our little brother!....when him and shawn started hitting their harmonics on time together it was so cool...i almost blew a load in my pants!
5. Todd plays drum's and he is bassist in inhuman dissiliency as well, so why does he take that position and how's his drumming?
todds drumming is really coming along great!...im excited to get him on some recordings man, so everybody can hear him...that little bastard can play just about anything!!....i could tie afew shoes-strings to a beer can and he could write a song on it....makes me fucking jealous!....and besides, if he played bass...what would i do??!...haha!
6. How long have you played bass for? Also, who influences your current playing style? Also, describe your playing style!!!
wells seiji...to tell you the truth less than a year man...though i fucked around with the guitar for a good while before that...the bass really didnt hit me until i saw the murder junkies play abunch of shows this year...merle allin really fucking blew me away!...i mean, he was up there onstage with his beard down to his kness just hammering away!....i was hooked!...so i went home an played along to some of my favorite records like the ramones and the murder junkies and here i am...i really dig oldies too man, and i know you cant hear any this in in sphacelate...but thats pretty much where im coming from.
7. Do you have any releases and merch upcoming? Also, when will you get the band logo done and who will do it?
yea man, we are working on getting our demo mastered right now!...plus always working on some new tunes!....and as far as logos and artwork go, shawn is so great with that stuff man...thats all him bro!...wait until you see the sleeve he got going on for the demo...fucking killer!
8. What kind of gear setup do you guys use?
you had to ask didnt you!!...let me tell you a quick story here...i had a nice dean ml guitar right?...and i spent weeks on that thing...plastering abunch of crazy comic book art all over it...really dark, black and white shit...and tip asked me if i wanted to sell it...and i said what the hell you know?...i wanted to see somebody rock it onstage!....soo yea...he came to practice acouple days later and the whole fucking thing was painted black and gray!!...what a prick!...guess it wasnt metal enough for him!....hahah!...but i will say hes putting it to better use than me!
9. Hows your scene? Pennsylvania has inhuman dissiliency, embludgeoned, defleshuary and etc. The scene is getting better right? So, any new sick bands there??
wells seiji...im pretty new myself to the scene be it local, or online...and i gotta say, everybody i have come in contact with so far has been fucking amazing...so nice man.
before when todd and shawn would talk about the brotherhood and stuff...id think to myself...."man these guys must all be fags!"....hahaha!!...man just kidding!, but i really didnt understand you know?...now im starting to see what they meant....as far as local goes...those bands that you have mentioned are all very cool!!...except for them inhuman guys!!....again, just a joke!!!....and as far as any sick new bands?...well this really isnt our scene but...what the hell!...we had a guy named Isaiah jam with us on drums afew times when we was just starting out...fucking awsome player man and a super nice guy!!....a real character!....but you know schedualing is a bitch and it didnt work out...plus there was even some talk of me filling in on bass in his black metal band morkskyr...and i went to watch them jam once or twice and was really impressed!....but again...schedualing is a bitch right?...so if you dont mind alittle black metal...keep an eye out for them ok?...im expecting some killer shit outta them!
