Interview with Scott of Running With Scissors

1. hey scott! first off give us a brief history of running with scissors and why did you decide to be in a sick one man band? and how did you come up with the band name and etc.
(RWS) Hey bro thanks for the opportunity. Well the name was one of many I had to choose from, I have been compiling a list of band names for years just trying to come up with the perfect one and im not sure if this one is good but it seemed at the time to make sense.

I decided a few years ago to just start doing things by myself. Nobody really got what I was trying to do and plus I get things done faster and don't have to worry about slack band members or band drama.

2. describe your bands sound and what bands can you compare the bands sound with? and what bands influence you?
(RWS) Man that's a hard one. My ultimate goal is to achieve a Devourment type sound that will hopefully change the way people look at E-Grind bands.

My main influences are: Devourment, Pustulated, Retch, Disgorge

3. i'm sure you love to use breakdowns right? when you create the groove parts and breakdowns what bands do you get hints from?
(RWS) That's easy! The ultimate gods of brutal slam Devourment!

4. i've got to mention your deep gutturals dude there fucking putrid! are there any guttural vocalists you learned a lot from and which do you like inhale or exhale gutturals and why?
(RWS) I have been greatly inspired by the vocal styling of Devourment, Pustulated and Disgorge

I actually use both but I prefer exhale for gutturals and Inhale for certain squeals.

5. i know it's hard to do drum programming so did you learn it yourself or did someone teach you? and are there any bands that also use a drum machine that influence you?
(RWS) That's the thing I have no clue what im doing, I learned everything I know by myself and when im writing I just feel if the beat is right. I don't settle for any beat sometimes I redo the drum tracks to a song three or four times before im happy.

6. what kind of gear do you use?
(RWS) My gear includes a 7 string Ibanez, Digitech processor, and Fruity loops for drum programming.

I don't use much equipment anymore don't really need it now. Another plus! As far as Guitarist that inspire my style I would say Mike Majewski(Devourment)

7. how's the scene around you? you live in california correct? any sick new bands you wanna recommend us to listen for?
(RWS) Yea its great here but there are way to many bands to give props to. I recommend just going to myspace and look through the Cali death metal scene.

8. do you have any releases planned for the near future. and what about the bands future, will you recruit more members or you keep it as a one man band?
(RWS) Yea my next cd will be entitled "Morbidly Aborted" and I look tho have it finished by the end of the year. I also will be on a 5 way split cd with Corse of Christ entitled "E-Grind Hell" should be release soon on "Last House On The Right Records"

I think I have my fill of dealing with other members so I think I will fly solo for now on.

9. what bands or releases have you been into recently?
(RWS) Impending Doom, I've Been Shot, Devourment, Job For A Cowboy, Elysia

10. the band logo looks sick as fuck did you do it or did you have someone else come up with it for you?
(RWS) Everything associated with RWS is done by me. I draw all my own cover art, logo and do all the design and layout work as well as writings all the material, recording and mixing. I like to be able to do everything myself and not depend on anyone. From start to finish its all me!

11. what do you think of our japanese death metal scene? do you like disconformity, infected malignity, rest in gore and etc? and in your opinion what's the best part of the jpdm scene?
(RWS) Aww man! I am so jealous of you guys over there, you have got the best bands by far coming out of anywhere. Im not sure about the rest of the US but everyone I know loves those bands. By far a big influence in my style.

12. do you have any other projects besides running with scissors?
(RWS) None to speak of, I want to really just do my own thing.

thanks bro! any comments you would like to add like plugs, shout outs and etc?
(RWS) I really want to thank you for the chance and give you props on representing the scene everywhere.
