Interview with Masaki of Rest in Gore

1. hey masaki what's up, you have been my bro for the past few years so it's a pleasure to interview you for your band rest in gore. first of all how did the band start and why did you choose to play this kind of music?
Hey seiji thanks for the interview! Ok, actually rest in gore has a pretty long history that goes back about five years. at first I formed the band to play gore grind but soon after that the band changed to our current style and before rest in gore I had a band that used a drum machine that sounded a lot like the current style of rest in gores music, because i like brutal stuff with some groove mixed into it so it was natural. rest in gores line up never stayed the same so basically i'm the only founding member of the band left.

2. i'm really into rest in gore's sound the band has a lot of txdm style breakdowns but you guys add some more original tastes. for instance your vocals are some sick ass guttural's and you cant compare yours to others. so what do you think about your band's sound?
as for the breakdown parts we are influenced by NYDM and TXDM but those essences are just a part of rest in gores overall sound cause we also include tastes of rock and etc. so I think it has some originality and the brutality is the most important part of course.

3. your gutturals are so sick and original so i'd like to hear what vocalistshave influenced you and which do you love inhale or exhale?
there's tons of vocalists that influence me like matti way (ex-disgorge) , nick of sikfuk and etc.my gutturals are all exhales.

4. you are not only the vocalist but the guitarist as well and the band is chock full of breakdowns so what bands influence you to create them?
I actually dont play guitar very well that's to say i'm bad at playing it but I do play it because i find it's easier and quicker that way but at shows I'll play guitar or I'll ask someone to play for me and i'll just sing. as I said I like NY and TX styled bands so my influences when it comes to guitar are bands like devourment, Prophecy, internal bleeding, mortal decay, disgorge and etc. but I also listen to GoreGrind bands such as CBT, last days of humanity, gutand etc.

5. the split cd with finland's maggottholania through severed records is sick as fuck dude, how's the response been to it ? and how did maggottholania become your partner for the split cd? and anymore releases planned for the near future?
Thanks! There's been some complains about it because we didn't put a lot of time into the split but other than that the responses are great. as for Maggottolamia Barrett of sevared recs decided they'd be our partner on the split and i don't know why he chose them but it makes for an interesting split between the bands have different sound and our next plan is not clear but we are creating some new songs now.

6. along with brutal slamming bands like disconformity, vomit remnants, and infected malignity i feel you guys will lead our jpdm scene. how do you feel about that? and any new unknown sick guttural slamming bands from our scene you can tell us a bout?
Yes disconformity is very active and they will surely influence lots more bands coming up.

7. what bands have you been listening to recently?
I been listening to Guttural Secrete recently and Foetopsy which is a very good band.

8. what kind of gear do you use? and what's the main goal of rest in gore's sound?
i use an Ibanez seven string guitar and Randolls Warhead amp but i plan on buying a new amp that sounds more to my liking soon. as for our sound i'm not particular about the sound just as long as it's sick and brutal cause that's what's important to me.

9. how was this year's tokyo deathfest ? what bands had the most impact on you at the fest? legendary txdm band viral load shared the stage with you so what was that like?
I really enjoyed sharing the stage with all the great bands from overseas i really like Disavowed and it was a pleasure to have seen them live. viral load was great too!

10. i've asked my friend grant from artery eruption about what guttural vocals and breakdowns mean for artery eruption. he replied that he really care's for them when creating their sick songs! what's your opinion about that question?
I agreed with that response although i tend to laugh if sick songs have some high tone vocals in them.

11. besides rest in gore do you guys have anymore projects? and before rest in gore started were you and the other members in any other bands?
As of now we only have rest in gore because besides the band we are so busy and we have no plans to do any other projects and etc besides rest in gore. before rest in gore i was in a band named godvile and the other members were in distemper.

12. what slamming brutal death bands do you want to share the stage with? i imagine some of the bands are along the likes of devourment, artery eruption, sect of execration, inhuman dissiliency and etc.
I wanna share the stage with all the bands you just mentioned and i'd love to share the stage with brodequin as well.

13. tell us about your future plans for the band like gigs and etc.
we have 4 shows planned so far, two shows in Tokyo and one show in a local area. we don't have a lot of time to rehearse new songs but we're gonna try and start making some new songs hopefully soon.

ok masaki thanks again bro. i was so glad we finally got to do this interview! any comments, or shout out's, or plug's you would like to add?
