Interview with Ben of Necrotic Disgorgement

1. Hey ben! I'm really honored to interview you because you were one of the members of ohio's legendary regurgitation and i'm a big fan of that band, so first off tell us why did regurgitation split up and how did necrotic disgogement start? And give us the current line up
Well thanx for the interview Seiji, I really appreciate it!!!!! Me and Tony decided to end Regurgitation after many line up changes and there was just alot of shit that happened in that band so we wanted to make a new start with a new band name. So we started Necrotic Disgorgement with me and Tony on guitar, and Jason Trecazzi on drums. Joe Wolfe was in Necrotic Disgorgement for almost a year doing vocals, and Rob Lesniak was in the line up for the same amount of time on bass. The current line up is: Ben Deskins-guitar/vokills, Tony Tipton-guitar, and Jason Trecazzi-drums.

2. Describe the bands sound in depth. The band sounds like regurgitation, but I think its more faster, brutal and technical right? And what other bands influence the band's sound and what bands can you compare necrotic disgorgement too?
You're exactly right. A couple of the songs on "Suffocated In Shrinkwrap" were actually written for Regurgitation. I do think that compared with Regurgitation, Necrotic Disgorgement is more brutal, and definitely faster. I don't know if I would say that it's more technical, but we are definitely just as technical, and we're playing those technical parts faster in this band. I would say that Necrotic Disgorgement is much more intense and to-the-point. That's one of the main reasons we didn't use any intros on the album. We wanted it to be severely intense from start to finish, without giving anyone a chance to breathe. I guess there's many bands you could compare Necrotic Disgorgement to. We're influenced by anything we hear that we like. Some of those bands would be Disgorge (US), Gorgasm, Disavowed, Necrophagist, Malthusia, Severed Savior, Lust Of Decay, Pyaemia, and many, many more.

3. the riffs in necrotic remind me of regurgitations riffs of course but that's definitely a good thing so my question is, what guitarists influence you to come up with current your playing style?
As far as songwriting and riffs, any of the guitarists in those bands from the last question. Like I said, anything that we listen to on a regular basis is an influence.

4. You did vocals for regurgitation and now necrotic disgorgement. Which do you love inhale or exhale gutturals? And if you compared your vocal style of regurgitation with your current style how did it change? And what's the big point of your vocal style?
There's really no big point of my vocal style. I just try to make 'em as brutal as possible to suit the music. All my vocals are exhale, I can't hardly do inhales at all. I think since Regurgitation my vocals have gotten somewhat lower. Also in Regurgitation I tried much harder to pronounce the words, now I don't really give a fuck about that. I mean, does anybody that would listen to Necrotic Disgorgement really give a fuck either???

5. Joe wolfe (clean flesh, erotic insisions, heinous killings) was in necrotic disgorgement a short while correct? Tell us what the band was like when he was a part of it, did he add more brutality to it with his killer gutturals? And you recently joined his new band heinous killings right? Tell us a bit about heinous killings.
Yeah Joe was in the band for almost a year. The songs were the same musically, although we only had about 6 songs at the time. Joe sounded sick over the music of course. I think Joe is the sickest vocalist ever. So just imagine our songs with Joe on vocals, that's what it sounded like. There was just a big contrast of musical styles between our songs and what Joe was use to. Yes I'm playing guitar in Heinous Killings. Our full length CD "Hung With Barbwire" will be out on Unmatched Brutality Records sometime in July. Joe recorded the entire CD himself before he had a full line up. The line up right now for Heinous Killings is:Joe Wolfe-vocals, Ben Deskins-guitar, Harold Burton-guitar, Brian Baxter-bass, D.J.-drums. I would highly recommend it to anyone into the sickest most brutal Death. You can check it out at www.myspace.com/heinouskillings.

6. How did you hook up with comatose records? i think suffocated in shrinkwrap is one of the sickest releases ever! And what releases will you have for the future?
I sent out a copy of some of the Regurgitation material to Steve from Comatose and he immediately was interested in working with us. We felt like Comatose would be a good label for us and we had a lot of confidence in Steve, so we all agreed and did the album. Right now, we're toying with the idea of doing a mini CD (5 songs) to bridge the gap between now and when Jason returns in 2008. That's not set in stone, but we're seriously considering it. Also I'm gonna be remixing and remastering "Suffocated In Shrinkwrap" and it will be rereleased on Comatose Music in June. Now it'll sound like it was meant to.

7. Recently a lot bands try to mix slam riffs with blast and technical beats and riffs and suddenly throw breakdowns in there as well, along with ultra guttural vocals on top of all that and personally i love this style but what do you think of it?
I love that style too. If you don't believe me check out the Heinous Killings CD when it's out.

8. How's the scene in ohio? Any sick new guttural bands? I know of cervical dissection (ex-immaculate molestation) but that's about it.
The scene in Ohio is ok, and it's getting better, but it's nowhere near what it was in the mid/late 90s when there was Embalmer, Ton, Hemdale, Sodomized, The Reefer Hut, Regurgitation, and a bunch of others. The scene's coming around though and there are some good bands here now like Fully Consumed, Severed Remains, Solidification (D.J.'s other band), Necrotic Disgorgement, Heinous Killings, and Embalmer is back together again too. So the scene here is pretty good still.

9. what kind of gear do you use?
Right now I'm using a Jackson flying V guitar with active EMG pickups, through a Peavey ProFex guitar processor, a Behringer Ultra Fex Exciter/Sonic Maximizer, and a Rocktron Velocity 120 Power Amp. I'm getting a new Jackson Warrior soon. I love those guitars and I've wanted one forever. They're about as metal as it gets.

10. you do both vocals and guitar so is it hard to do that when you are playing gigs? And do you have any gigs planned for the near future?
Unfortunitely Necrotic Disgorgement has never played a live show. Jason had to leave for the service right after we recorded the CD, so we never got the chance to play out, which sux. Doing vocals and playing guitar at the same time can be hard at first until I've had a chance to practice it. Some parts are harder than others but the more I practice, the easier it is.

11. what do you think of the brutal death scene as of now? seems there's not too many big name bands around anymore then back in say 1999. what do you think changed?
There's not as many big name bands now, but the quality of the bands out there now is as good as ever. There's some truly killer stuff coming out these days that you wouldn't have heard 7 or 8 years ago. Bands just keep pushing the envelope of brutality. Just when you think something can't be topped a band comes along and tops it. The internet has definitely played a big role in the scene too.

12. do you or any other members of necrotic have anymore bands except heinous killings and necrotic disgorgement?
No, not really. Tony's always got something going on, but usually just for fun.

13. what do you think about our jpdm scene? have you checked out bands like disconformity and rest in gore?
I've heard Disconformity, but that's about it. There's alot of really cool people from Japan that I'm in contact with though!!!

14. ok two more questions then i'm done, what's the main goal for the band's sound? And how do you want to make it more brutal and sick?
Our main concern when writing new songs is that it's up to par on a level of brutality, intensity, and sickness, with fresh ideas and good songwriting and catchy, memorable musical arrangements. The only way to make it more brutal and sick is to just get better at what we do. I truly believe that a band can progress while at the same time getting even more brutal. A good songwriter will progress on both the musical AND the brutality aspect. I think bands that use "progressing" as an excuse to wimp out is pure bullshit.

thanks again for the interview ben it was a pleasure. anything you'd like to add like shout outs or plugs?
Thanx tons for the interview Seiji, it was fun. Like I said, I'll be remixing and remastering "Suffocated In Shrinkwrap" within the next couple weeks, so check out the new and improved version out on Comatose Music in June. I'm also planning on starting my own recording service sometime in the near future called Razor Sharp Audio Production, which will offer in studio or on location digital and analog recording, remixing and remastering, audio restoration, etc. Of course, brutal bands are preferred! Also check out both of my bands at these sites:www.myspace.com/necroticdisgorgement and www.myspace.com/heinouskillings. Everybody get in touch with me at necroticdisgorgement@yahoo.com, and razorsharpaudio@yahoo.com. And always remember:Keep It Fucking Sick!!!
