Interview with Nathan of Mortuus
1. hey bro!!! thanks for the intie!!! mortuus is pretty new band right? tell us the bands history and the current line up!! and the bands name have deep meaning and whats the concept? 4. you guys use tons of slams and breakdowns.what bands inspire you to cerate those parts? 8. hows your scene? any new sick bands you are into?
First off, thanks bro for finding us/interviewing us! We're very honored to be interviewed by such a great webzine!
But anywho, actually we've been around since January 2006 and finally reached our deathgrind side awhile ago. We've come along way from about a year ago. We've been through many different line-up changes, but we feel completely and utterly content with this one.
The bands name is latin for "dead". We picked it to sort of pick fun at all those bands who overuse the word "dead", "dying", and etc. Just some fun, you know?
2. describe the bands sound!!! so the band has some cool breakdowns and slams as well as grinding parts!!! and what bands influence you guys?
We basically take deathgrind and just add some slams, but try to be different than most of what's going on. We like to stick out more than blend. We actually dislike metalcore breakdowns A LOT, but we love us some slams, haha. But our main influences to us musically are CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN, Devourment, Digested Flesh, Cattle Decapitation, and Inhuman Dissiliency. All those bands are SICK.
3. you guys use some varied vocals like low gutturals, squwals and some hard core screams!!! describe vocals style and what bands motivate you to use some varied ones?
Our vocalist uses a wide variety like you pointed out. Like I stated, we want to stick out in the music scene. I'm sure as most can tell, one of his biggest influences is Circle of Dead Children. But he's a fan of old-school hardcore, and we want to see how those two would mix. So far so good!
Actually, all our slam influences come from bands like Devourment, Digested Flesh, and Inhuman Dissiliency, all big influences on us. Also some Waking The Cadaver for some slams.
5. i guess you guys are heavily influenced by waking the cadaver right? what WTC means for you?
Actually, no! We do enjoy them, but we don't consider them a huge influence. I'm sure you could say some of our stuff sounds like that, but it just came out that way.
6. you use some grinding parts.as for those parts, whats bands influence you guys?
Cattle Decapitation is a big grindcore/deathgrind influence to us. We enjoy their music very much.
7. what kind of releases will you have? and youll have some merch soon?
We are going to release our EP "More Gore Than Before" in May '07 and plan to release some shirts in May as well. The future will be exicting!
The Northwest Indiana scene isn't that good for death metal/deathgrind bands. We don't really like to ponder into them. We just try to get our music to everyone and anyone, worldwide or just at a local venue.
I'm currently digging Sikfuk, they're very brutal.
9. you guys have other bands besides mortuus?
Our singer was currently in a deathgrind/slam band Pear of Anguish, but he quit due to wanting to be more dedicated to Mortuus.
10. last question, tell us the bands future plan and add any last words you would like to add please!!!
We currently plan on talking to some labels and try to get our name more known so we can share our music with everyone. We also plan on recording a full-length, either with a label or not.
Our last words would be to any fan, WE APPRECIATE YOU AND LOVE YOU! Keep supporting Mortuus, you are what keeps us going! And thanks Ingurgitated Decapitation Webzine for interviewing us!
KEEP IT BRUTAL!
