Interview with Carlos from Mindly Rotten

1. Hey Carlos! What's up? First of all give us a brief history of Mindly Rotten. How and why did it start?
Hey Seiji! First of all, thanx for taking your time for an interview with Mindly Rotten. Mauricio the guitarist and Duver the drummer have been playing for four or five years. In 2003 I started playing in a new project with Mauricio, it didn't work out, then I met our drummer in a local concert and we deicided to start playing the next day, it was on December the 2nd and since that date Mindly Rotten started working.

2. Describe the band's sound! And what bands influence it?
Mindly Rotten's sound is a little hard to describe. We have been trying to make our own style. Blasting but with a special feeling of drums. Fast, techical and melodic - not gothic but keeping the density and strengh of grind metal guitars sound. Our influences are Brodequin, Pustulated, Deeds of Flesh, Necrophagist, Internal Suffering, Disavowed. Dying fetus.they rule!

3. Your debut cd will be released by new Colombian label named grindsyndrome recs. How did you hook up with them?
Grindsyndrome is new Colombian label managed by Andres Usma from Pustulated. He came back to Colombia and started looking for Colombian brutal bands to release. His friend of the band contacted him and gave him some videos we recorded at Armenia Death Fest 2005, I believe it was the same date of Tokyo Death Fest 2005, and he liked Mindly Rotten's sounds and then he trusted in us a lot. And we started working with grindsyndrome records.

4. Tell us about the new cd.
Ok finally our debut cd called "The Most Exquisite Agonies" was released. Ten tracks of pure mental anihilation, torture, agony and self destruction. We want to tear out your ears and brains!!!!!!!!

5. When writing songs for Mindly Rotten, in which order do you write them? Guitar riffs, then lyrics or the other way around?
When we write songs, I dont have special order. But usually we start doing that when all guitar riffs are written, and then the drums and later lyrics.

6. Mindly Rotten reminds me of U.S. style ultra blasting brutal death bands like Disgorge and Enmity, so do they motivate you to play ultra brutal and fast songs?
Yeah we have been influenced by some U.S. brutal bands like Brodequin, Pustulated, Disgorge and so on, also technical bands like Cryptopsy. But our influences are from Colombian bands: the likes of Internal Suffering, Carnal, Blaze Inside or Mental Aprexia. It is different when you hear a blasting brutal cd from when you are at a live show with these killer brutal bands. That is really what influences us.

7. A lot of vocalists from Colombia have really sick gutturals and Mindly Rotten's vocalist is no exception! Do you know what bands influence him to spew such sick gutturals?
Yeah, that's our own style! Colombian bands play ultra guttural, and ultra blasting or ultra slamming.

8. Do you guys have any other bands? Or you are concentrating solely on Mindly Rotten?
No, at this moment we are only working on Mindly Rotten but there are some projects for the future.

9. What releases will you have besides the new cd through grindsyndrome recs?
At this moment we are working on the distro and promoting our new cd. But we hope to record an Mcd with 5 or 6 new songs next year 2006 . We have started writting new songs and everything is working out!
