Interview with Chase of Malodorous

1. Hey bro, thanks for taking time out for me to interview you, first off tell us a brief history of Malodorous. And tell us the current line up.Also I noticed each of you are from New york and Georgia.how did you did you guys get in contact?
MAL.) We actually met through our other projects: Pig Grinder(Chase's joke project)/Splattered Entrails, and we got in touch through e-mails and shit, and we just thought of starting a pure, brutal death/grind band. We're brand new, so there pretty much isn't any history yet, Haha, and the current line-up is just the two of us: Chase Martin - Vocals and Mike O'Hara - Drum-Programming, Guitars, Vocals.

2. Describe the bands sound, and you guys have fast oriented parts and also slow parts like slams. So which do you prefer fast or slow parts? and what bands influence the bands sound?
MAL.) We're pretty much fans of both parts. We're huge fans of slams though, it what really gets us going. We wanna kill people when we hear it, Hahahaha. Bands that influence our sound, would be: Devourment, Guttural Secrete, Disconformity, Cephalotripsy, Anomalous, Putrid Pile, Wormed, Circle of Dead Children, Inveracity and Heinous Killings.

3. Vocals are low gutturals, but I can hear a more varied vocal style.tell us what kind of vocals style do you guys use and what bands influence your vocals style?
MAL.) Well, we tend to mix it up. Chase will do lower more guttural vocals, while Mike, does some of that, but also covers more of the higher "ree-ree" vocals. I guess influences on our vocals would be like Guttural Secrete, Putrid Pile, Wormed, Circle of Dead Children and Waking the Cadaver.

4. What kind of gears do you use? and how does writting songs work?
MAL.) We both use Shure Mics, and to record the instruments themselves, we got a Behringer Mini Soundboard, with a 6 string Ibanez (always in dropped tuning) hooked up to a Zoom GFX-707 Guitar Effects processor, and we use a drum-program on the computer.

5. You guys use a drum machine. So how did you learn to do that? And what drum machine bands influence you to create drum machine parts?
MAL.) Well, It's funny because both of us happen to be drummers outside of Malodorous. We've been playing drums for years. So, Mike actually sampled his drum kit to feed the samples in the drum-machine, that's how we got a realistic sound. But our biggest influence for this is hands-down, Putrid Pile.

6. Describe the guitar sound, any particular bands influence it?
MAL.) Hmm... We'd probably have to say that the sound of it, is one of it's own. It kind of sounds like it's real digital and direct from a pedal, which it is, but we're pretty proud of the sound, it's a good sound to us. And I guess no bands have really influenced this sound, we just tried to go with a real cool distorted chuggy sound.

7. What kind of releases will you have? Do you have any merch coming up?
MAL.) We currently are in the process of recording our demo, "Amaranthine Redolence", so definetely keep an eye out of that. And when that's done, we'll do what we can with submitting it to labels and shit. But yeah, We'll have some merch real soon. The demo, and some shirts!! Keep an eye out for that shit!!

8. How's the scene around you? Any cool bands you wanna mention?
MAL.) Our scene's are pretty much lame as fuck. Nobody on Long Island/Canton, Georgia has even fuckin heard of any good bands. I mean, with the exception of our friends. I guess the one's worth mentioning are The Partisan Turbine, and Waking The Cadaver, but that's about it, Hahaha. They're up in NY/NJ/Tri-State Area.

9. You guys have other bands or Malodorous is your main band?
MAL.) Malodorous is Chase's main band, and for Mike, It's his main band, along with Splattered Entrails. Both bands have their place, equally.

10. What bands have you been into recently?
MAL.) Heinous Killings, Inveracity, Last Days of Humanity, Devourment, Condemned, The Partisan Turbine, Maggot Stuffed Cunt, Corpse Carving.

11. Thanks for the interview any last words you would like to add?
MAL.) We'd like to thank you Seiji for interviewing us, and watch out for our EP and BLAST THAT SHIT!!!
