Interview with Brian of Lypektomy
1. Hey brian its a pleasure to interview you for your new band lypektomy, first off give us a brief history of the band and tell us the current line up.
hi seiji! First of all, its a fuckin pleasure & honor to see overseas support for LYPEKTOMY.
Im too lasy so heres the myspace bio hehe:
LYPEKTOMY was born in 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Brian (vox), Billy (drum) and Steve (guitar) started the band with the idea of becomin the heaviest, fastest and sickest band ever, a uncompromised tribute to Devourment, Disgorge, Sepsism...
Rob was quickly added as bassplayer. After several years of jams and gigs, the first studio work was unleashed. This " 2005 promo " was supposed to be used to reach the attention of underground, sadly only 40 were printed.
In 2006, things quickly changed when Steve and Rob Were kicked out, due to their lack of work and motivation. Line up finally gains stability with the arrival by John (guitar)
Now the band is working on new songs, pushed their limits even farther with an incredible mixture of slammin groovy parts and non stop gravity blasts.
2. You are really into txdm right? how did you get into txdm and what is it about guttural slamming styled music that appeals to you.
TXDM is all DM is about, I dig all corpsegristle shit!!! Hound did a lot for USDM!!
In the beginning, LYPEK was a tribute to TX bands but now, since the 2 fags left the band (and billys progress on drum hehehe) LYPEK is more into the ENMITY vein but always with this special groovy and filthy touch.
3. What bands influence the band? maybe the band has been influenced by bands like devourment, sect of execration, enmity and etc right? and what do you take from listening to these bands and use in your own band?
These bands you mention are major influences to our music for sure!! But Ive tried and always will to add heavy breakdowns. Our style is " gravity groove " so you can add the following: SECT OF EXECRATION, DYSCRASIA, DEPRECATED, PYREXIA, SINTURY, BRODEQUIN, SUFFOCATION, ARTERY ERUPTION, DESPONDENCY, PUSTULATED, SHREDDED CORPSE, old INTERNAL BLEEDING, DRIPPING... Sponge Bob for lyrics too
4. When it comes to writing songs how does that work? and as for slamming parts especially, what bands do you guys draw inspirations from?
all came from Jack Daniel LOL (tennessee water...). DM has turned us all into slamming and sick robots so music came to us easily.
5. How's your scene are there any new bands like lypektomy? And what releases have you been into recently?
in Tennessee BRODEQUEEN thats all. There's not any GOOD new bands comming up though. perhaps Coathanger Abortion, Your Kids on Fire, Platonic Disease Our best band ever was for sure Besieged!!!!!!
Personally, I have been listening to the new Diftery, Grotesque Formation, Crepitation, Necrotorture, Rest In Gore, Carnivore Diprosopus, Septical Gorge
6. What kind of gear do you guys use?
yahama drum with trigger, marshall amps, esp guitars, nothin special
7. What releases will you have in the near future? And will you have any merchandise?
we are currently writing material for our first full length or mcd. Perhaps after some logo shirt and hoodies will follow, but music first. (some real good labels contact us so)
8. Which do you like to use exhale or inhale gutturals and why? are there any vocalists that influence your current style and how do you try to progress as a vocalist?
I love and use both style. Im still trying to practice 5 or 6 different styles, I work with my larynx, lips, lung, throat
Vocals are important to me, perhaps the first thing I listen in a band.
Vocalists: Matty way, the previous mexigorge guy, dyscrasia dude and franck mullen (live)
9. certain elements like breakdowns, gutturals, and double bass are important for this kind of music in my opinion so for lypektomy what are you guys focused on the most?
we try to focus on gravity blasts and groovy riffs, to combine both, plain and simple. Then come my vocals part and as I said before, this is the real shit to me.
10. do any of you guys have any side projects you would like to tell us about or are you all just concentrating on this band?
NONE, LYPEKTOMY is our major focus in our live. Its my first and I hope last band. Billy got previous bands (BM, DM, grind) but nothing really serious.
11. you know of our Japanese scene right? what do most U.S fans think of when it comes to our scene and name some of your favorite japanese bands?
There are so many awesome bands out there. REST IN GORE is the best heavy downtuned band to me. I saw INFECTED MALIGNITY in Germany last year it was just incredible too. I dont forget DISCONFORMITY, VOMIT REMNANTS, INFERNAL REVULSION, WOUNDEEP
ok well thanks for the interview bro i'll keep in touch with you and spread your bands name around. anything else you would like to add?
thanks for ALL my Japanese bro! I hope you and all sickos worldwide will enjoy our new shit. And we hope to play overseas soon as well!
