Interview with Hideath of Infernal Revulsion
1. hey hideath what's up? i'm so glad i get to introduce one of the more
promising bands from japan to our readers! so first off give us a brief
history of infernal revulsion and you were also in a hardcore band named
immortality right? why did you start this kind of brutal guttural slamming music? 11. do you guys have anymore bands besides infernal revulsion?
Thank you for this great opportunity Seiji!!we are so honored to be
interviewed by your sick zine!
okay, I'll start by telling abit of myself. I joined Immortality in 2002 to
play bass, played countless numbers of shows, released two materials but
after a while i started wanting to play more Brutal music that i'm really
into and also sing instead of playing bass. so in 2005 I quit immortality
and rang up few of my friends who are into brutal music and can play the
instruments to see if they're interested to form Infernal Revulsion with
me, and i got all straight answers, Yes.
2. infernal revulsion has a killer guttural slamming sound so i guess
your influences are mainly nydm and txdm bands like devourment, sect of
execration, internal bleeding, dehumanized, repudilation and etc. right? describe the bands sound in your own words!!!
Yes, our music is very much influenced by nydm and txdm. and one theme to create our music
is to be Brutal, Heavy and Intense!! so I'll describe it New breed of
intensive slamming brutal death!!
3. how does writing songs work generally? i can hear plenty of slams and
breakdowns in the songs and as i said above you were in immortality which also had cool breakdowns, so do you try to keep the same vibe as immortality or try to make it even more brutal?
usually, i come up with few riffs and rough ideas of structure and image of
the song.and we all figgit around together as a band.
reason I started this band was to play more brutal shit than immortality,
so it's not trying to, it naturaly becomes more brutal. but in the other hand
I always wanna keep the hard core kind of vibe on beatdowns and how we
perform at the shows.
4. your gutturals and gurgles are sick as fuck for sure but how did you
come up with them and what vocalists influence your current vocal style? and which do you love inhale or exhale gutturals?
Thanks for that! but I'm still and always working on the gutturals to sound
it sicker and better of course. my guttural at the moment came up with just
imaging what kind of sound i wanna produce, and thinking of vibrating my
throat all the time and trying many ways of vocalizations.
the gutturalists i always imagined was Wayne Knupp of ex- Devourment, Steven Watkins of Sect of execration, Sherwood Webber of skinless. There were the
main but I'm also infuluenced alot by Frank Mullen's atmosphere as the
vocalist.
And i love both inhale and exhale but i rather exhale 'cause that how I do
it!
5. lately there's been a lot of bands that use gutturals and breakdowns
but my friends say japanese bands have their own style even though they also have gutturals and breakdowns, so tell us what does infernal revulsion have that other bands don't have.
Thats great to know and I myself love Japanese bands too! specially
Disconformity are great! I think we have more of a hard core and death core
vibe to it than the others specially the slamming parts.
and it's simple but technical, technical but simple. same thing but you know
what I mean?
6. what kind of gear do you guys use?
I use shure SM58, Mass-T uses Jackson RR and Diesel, Naga uses Gibson
explorer, and Krank. Batch uses Ibanez and SWR and DNA bass dragger and Masa
uses Pearl drums, Axis pedals and Roland triggers.
7. what bands have you been into recently?
since TDF is comming up, i've been listening to the bands that are playing
at the fest. especially Infected malignity's new stuff which is
awsome(thanxs for the copy!!) and all the albums of Internal suffering. and
new cannibal corpse was awsome too!!
8. you are from kobe which is located near osaka (we call this area which
includes osaka, kobe, and some other places 'kansai') so are there any
sick new guttural slamming bands from kansai? i know devital is from osaka are you good friends with those guys?
unfortunatelly Devital is the only band that is brutal and still going in
Kansai area at the moment
and we are good friends with them, specially the drummer Taku. we go drinking
every now and then.
but there are no brutal death scene what so ever over here. many grind core
and hard core bands though. I'm hoping for more brutal bands to form in
Kansai. Pleeeeease!!!!!
9. the debut single cd is awesome i'm really getting into it but what releases will you have for the near future? and are you negotiating with some labels for any possible releases now?
Thanks!!I'm so glad you're into it!!!we don't have any plans or
negotiations for near future but we do want to release constantly if there
is oppotunity.
10. the tokyo scene has vomit remnants, disconformity, rest in gore,
infected malignity, woundeep and etc. and kansai's scene has infernal
revulsion and devital. the jpdm scene is getting bigger and bigger rapidly so what's your view on the future of the japanese brutal death scene and where do you hope it goes?
As I said, there are great bands in Japan and sick festival like Tokyo
Deathfest. If it continues on like this for next few years, having more bands
in Kansai. I'm sure it'll be one of the killer country for brutal music!! I
strongly hope that'll come true. and we'll make it happen.
no we don't. my personal thought is, if i got time and effort to put in to
something else use it for Infernal Revulsion.
12. what's the main goal of the bands sound? and what's the future plans
for the band?
I believe there is no goal for the sound. I'll always be wanting more and
more. future plan is to play heaps more shows(we've only played three),
release an album and tour overseas.
13. ok one more question before we finish this interview. personally i always liked devourment and devourment styled bands because in my opinion gutturals and breakdowns are important parts to make this kind of music, so what's your opinion how important are gutturals and breakdowns to you in terms
of this kind of music?
My opinion is every single sound to our music is important. not just the
breakdowns and gutturals.
breakdowns and guttural are vital to our music but so are the other every
single bit.
thanks for the interview anything you would like to add bro?
thank you so much for interviewing us and your brutal support since the
begining!! and we will stimulate Kansai area and fuck shit up!!!!!!
