Interview with Hutto of Ingurgitate

1. hey hutto! im glad you granted me this interview for the killer txdm band your in called ingurgitate. first of all, tell us a brief history of the band. and why did you decide to start a one man band?
Thanks, I started Ingurgitate about 5-6 years ago, recorded a demo called "Climitified Colostomy Clumps" Hahaha, it was garbage, Shawn Whitaker played on that demo as well, with me on vocals. Ingurgitate would have been a full band if I would have had anyone to jam with that was worth a shit, im from a small town. So, I went and bough an Alesis sr-15, wrote some songs and never looked back.

2. you were in devourment in the past. how did you end up joining the band? how were your experiences in devo? did you create any song's with them? and do the things you've experienced in devo have any impact on ingurgiate's style?
I played some shows opening for Devourment in 02' Their first shows back as a band. We became friends and when Kevin got kicked out after Detriot Metal Fest, Hound told me and I emailed Ruben about the spot and he called me. I was originally supposed to play bass cause Gabriel wanted to switch to guitar. I was a huge Devourment fan then so, I damn near dropped the phone haha.. So I went up there and the day i went up there, there was this HUGE fucking ice storm, so I ended up getting trapped up there for about a week. Me and Ruben went over to Roberts house and I learned "Feastering Vomitous Mass" in about an hour I think and we had a whole 20 minute practice that night haha. I never officially wrote anything with them, just parts that I would write and show to Robert sometimes. I dont think there was any interest in writing a new album at that time cause shit was starting to fall apart with that line up. I comepleted two songs. Took me about three months to learn the MT D material cause its really fast and i hadnt ever played anything that fast. Needless to say, I had a great time. I just wish it would have been permenant. I like the dudes, we just dont get along. Devourment has been a huge influence now on me, I like to play really fast now and have problems sometimes with shit coming out sounding like Devourment and have no interest in coming off as a Devourment clone.

3. the band reminds me of old school bands like morbid angel and immolation, but also insidious decrepancy and devourment! describe the band's sound for us.
I am all about the old school, its pretty much the only shit ill pop in and listen to. The old material was written when i was a huge incantation, devourment, Infernal Dominion, Viral load fan. Over the years I have learned to appreciate other forms of music and have tried to fuse them to form one collective monster. The new material to me is a cross between Chimaira, Immolation and Suffo. Death metal with a tinge of more punchy Metal/Thrash.

4. you have some killer ultra guttural vocals dude! are there any vocalists that have influenced you?
Thanks, on the first album i wasnt that great of a singer. I have influences from all over the place from Mike Patton to Wayne Knupp. Its hard to figure which ones influence me the most.

5. i heard ingurgitate is not a one man band anymore a new drummer has joined the band correct? tell us about him and how did you find him. you got any shows set up you'll play with him or etc?
Yeah man, Duane Timlin.... Ex-Broken Hope and Divine Empire. Duane's a pretty good friend of mine and I grew tired of using the drum machine and it always coming out so one dimensional. At first, he was going to do sessions for the new album and I suckered him into joining the band full time. After the new album is recorded, we are going to take time off to work on War of Horns, which is more hardcore/metal. without the chug chugs. We might do some Ingurgitate shows in the future but, it would only be fests and lengthy tours.

6. you handle all the instruments, vocals ,and drum progarmming so when it comes to writing songs, how does it work? and what bands influence you to do that?
I dont do much of the drum programming when I write songs anymore, I use alot of tempo changes now and dont feel like the headache of punching in tempos. I do on riffs when I have ideas to see if they suck or not. cause it sounds alot different when you listen to them as opposed to when you are playing them.

7. the new cd will be out through russian label inherited suffering recs. alex the label owner loves txdm a lot he released the sintury reissue disc and plans on releasing some other txdm bands as well. so how did you hook up with him? and tell us about the new cd! when is it out, how does the new cd sound compared with the previous release on comatose recs and etc.
Ive talked to Alex online for a couple of years know. And awhile ago Ingurgitate was up for a split with Terminally, Your Aborted Ghost. But, it never worked out. And he asked if we wanted to realese something on his label to help him build the labels status and I said "sure" and he offered us a killer contract. The new cd, hmmm.... The new shit sounds wayyyy fucking different. My sound has grown so much over the past few years and still continues. I do different stuff everyday. We go into the studio in about a week. cd should be out in early to mid November. It crushes, its a different kind of "brutal"...

8. texas has a lot of cool slamming brutal death bands like devourment, viral load, prophecy, sect of execration and etc. i can see cool slam parts in ingurgitate's songs as well. you play ultra brutal and technical songs but suddenly you put cool breakdowns in the songs as well outta nowhere! so you like to use breakdowns for ingurgitate?
I like playing breakdowns but too many bands do them these days, wayyyy too much. I like to make them come out of nowhere. The new material is a comeback to the old school breakdowns (Malevolent Creation, Suffo)

9. how's the texas scene? any sick bands worth mentioning?
There hasnt been a band in Texas that has made me go "wow" in a while. Most of the good bands broke up or went on to suck but, Braced For Nails is on the up and up, Images is kickin ass, My Son My Executioner is the shit and Devourment will always be the norm I guess. The Texas scene is alright I guess, getting better but still no 90's.

10. what bands have you been listening to recently?
The Red Chord, All That Remains, Death By Stereo and lots of Maiden.

11. tell us what instruments you love to play the most and what kind of gear do you use.
First and foremost, I love my guitar. I play drums kinda. Ive had a few kits over the years... I can tear up a bass, I finally got one a couple of months back, id like to play bass in a band. Right now, I use a Metal zone ran through a e.q and a Dean Markely power amp with my Jackson stack. I used to have a whole bunch of awesome rack shit. I sold most of it to Ruben and its the same sound thats used on the new Devourment. I miss it and im still trying to get my shit built back up.

12. what's the main goal of the band's sound?
To make Pat Robertson cry in a corner shouting for momma. Loud, the new material is loud as fuck. no clean parts and its non stop.

13. ok last question hutto, you hear of jpdm bands like disconformity, rest in gore, infected malignity, and vomit remnants? what do you think of our jpdm scene?
Vomit Remnants has always been my favorite Jp death metal band. they rule. The jpdm scene has always been sick and its cool to see new bands coming out.

ok well thanks again for the interview dude any shout outs or plugs or anything you want to give?
Thanks for the interview man! I dont think I have anything else to say other than buy our new album and BALLS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
