Interview with Paul of Grymer

1. hey seiji here.thanks for the intie.im so intrested in your uk scene.especially trenchhead is my fav band!!! so first off i have read your line up and noticed that some of you are in another uk hard core bands which are musically differnt from GRYMER.how did you decide to start this band and tell us the current line up!!
Sup Seiji, thanks for having us. yeh were all from london apart from Andy and Dave who are from Essex. this is the current line up....

Paul(me)-guitar(sullen/trenchhead)
marcel-vocals(sullen/bdo)
fargen-bass(sullen)
mark-vocals(flawless victory)
andy-vocals(my.x.2.bare/50caliber/raiden/ebd)
dave-drums(my.x.2.bare)
altho were thinking of finding a more local drummer.

theres alot of metalcore/ hardcore going around over here whch is good but not really my thing. I always wanted to do create something alot more brutal and fast with grind and durty slams. One of the sullen guitarists Fargen showed a keen interest and it started from there.

2. the band sounds so moshy and have tons of slow parts like slams and breakdowns.describe the bands music!! and what bands influence you guys?
for me influences have been brutal slam brutality and also alot of old school style hardcore.. bands like devourment, vomit remants, cephalotripsy, digested flesh, knuckledust, viral load... but not just music, alos life, local areas, crime, gangs, shit that happens everyday you know.

3. how many vocalists are there in the band?? i can hear some varied vocals like high screams, gutturals and squeals.so describe all vocals and what bands influence your vocals style for GRYMER?
so far there are 3 vocalists in the band, plus 2 back ups form me and the bassist. i wanted to give off a crew/gang vibe with the vocals. I also want to keep it alot more brutal and get rid of the screams.. i plan to have 3 gutural toned vocalists including myself and a fast hardcore MC. on the latest rough track we have jme from trenchhead spitting some flows, shit sounds brutal.

4. you guys use drum machine right? who mainly cretate those parts and what bands do you learn from to do that?
the drum tracks are made by myself and fargen on logic. they are at a very very rough stage as you can here on the old tunes STOMP OUT MAN & MURK O CLOCK.. we are waiting to get better samples.. hopefully the drumkit from hell samples as weve heard they are probably the best. we are even thinkin of getting a drum machine to play the first few shows if things do not work out with our current drummer.

5. as i said ,the band has tons of slams and breakdowns.i just found that your main influences on myspace includes both txdm and jpdm.tell us about that!!
yeh man theres been alot of texas and japanese influence for me. id say mainly devourment insidious decrepancy viral load vomit remnants disconformity infected malignity. there two styles are purely brutal as im sure you are aware.. whats going on with infected malignity's style?

6. who creates mainly those parts such as slams and breakdowns and what bands do you draw inspirations alot to create? devourment is one of them for sure right?
yeh i write all the songs mainly becasue fargen is busy writing for sullen.. altho im sure if he wasnt we would write alot together. but yeh devourment has been one of our main influences i like idea of a very simple yet brutal structure..s lam after slam, i like technical death metal.. but didnot want that for grymer

7. hows uk secne? tell us about both hard core and brutal death scene!!! and any good bands worth mentioned?
there is alot of bullshit with the uk hardcore and death metal scenes. the local hardcore scene is sick, pure dancing and murkage. the death metal scene is segregated, and dont really take kindly to seeing hardcore kids.. the hardcore crowd doesnt mind the death metal, but the death metal crowd usually frowns apon the hardcore crowd when seen at shows etc. there has only been a few shows where people have been hardcore dancing and moshing at the same time..which is what i like to see. its usually the purist death metalers with 200 band patches on there jean jacket that start rumbles.

8. tell us all bands you have been involved in now and past!!
we havent been envolved with many bands at all, mainly beacuse we are still in the very early stages of production and have not had a chance to organise shows or even to get our name out there. we still need a good drummer to jam shit out. At the moment though the bands we are envolved are the bands our memebers our in... Trenchhead, Sullen, BDO, Serpeant Meat..and ofcourse our good friends in HuntingHumans

9. thanks for the intie!!! any last words you would like to add??
no no thank you seiji! apreciate the intrestand the support. yeh keep you ears out for GRYMER in the near future, shits guna get filthy. also watch your back for UGB, new Trenchhead and HuntingHumans cheers bro many thanx
