Interview with Brian of Guttural Engorgement

1. hey brian i'm glad i get to do an interview for your new band guttural engorgement, so first off tell us how the band started and what's the current line up. and how did you come up with the name guttural engorgement?
Well Mark and I were thinking about some possible names for this band that would describe our sound...we're all about gutturals and fucking slam. haha

2. the band reminds me of devourment and revenance so what slam bands influence you guys? and what kind of slam style do you want to play a more new yorkish style or more of a devoument style?
Well devourment is an obvious influence as well as revenance. Ive been apart of the hardcore scene for a while so when i write our slam parts, i try to make them "danceable"....our drummer has the same background as i so he also likes to incorporate those old school hardcore styles. Personally i love ny style death metal so we'll be grooving as well haha.

3. you really care about gutturals and breakdowns right? as for breakdowns where do you get your inspirations from when creating them.
My favorite bands for breakdowns and music in general are Despised Icon, Bury Your Dead, Between The Buried And Me, Remembering Never etc.

4. what kind of gears do you guys use? i think you use 7 strings guitar .it can sound more low than 6 strings right? so whats big points using it for the band? maybe you try to do ultra low downtuned riffs?
Well yes i do play a 7 string. Mainly because it adds that extra punch during our slam parts. i play through a 5150 head and marshall cab. Justin (bass) plays through an ampeg 8x10 and a head.

5. any guitarists influence your current playing style?
I am really influenced by the guitarists in Despised Icon. I think they really reinvented the whole death metal style and sound. Other influences are suffocation, goratory, and Devourment of course haha.

6. hows your scene now a days? i know north carolina has a pretty good scene so is it safe to say south carolina is the same?
Actually as of right now our scene isnt really all that great. We're really the only "brutal death" band in this area...kids arent really used to our style. Our vocalist Mark was the drummer in Sikfuk and was the guitarist in Kretan....so he has many connections.

7. what bands have you been into recently?
Recently i have really been into Revenance and Goratory. I also listen to alot of rap and indie.

8. in your opinion what bands are the best when it comes to slams and level of excitement?
Revenance!!! Devourment, Guttural Secrete, Stabwound, Terminally Your Aborted Ghost...

9. what releases will you have for the near future? and what labels do you want to release your material on?
We plan on releasing our demo pretty soon after we rewrite our current songs...right now we're adding parts here and there to lengthen them and make them way more brutal...We've only been a band a little over a week so we still have a lot to work on.

10. which does mark the vocalist like to use inhale or exhale gutturals and why? and what vocalists influence him? and in your opinion what other vocalists are similar to his vocals?
Definately Gutturals...He's all about those haha. He's influenced mainly by Devourment. He's also really into Impending Doom (CA)...and disgorge etc.

11. you guys have any side projects besides guttural engorgement?
Well the drummer and i are in a melodic hardcore band called brothers...its totally opposite of GE...its more along the lines of comeback kid or with honor and maybe even shai hulud.

12. you heard anything about our jpdm scene at all? disconformity is worth checking out if your into the slamming style.
Fuck yea...i love disconformity and infected malignity...vomit remnants rule as well.

13. what's the main goal of the band in general?
I want this band to be a sick ass slam band...we just want kids to fuck each other up and slam.

thanks for the interview bro! anything you would like to add?
thanks for all the support so far...keep it brutal and fucking slam.
