Interview with Rob of Enmity
1. hey rob! huge thanks for giving me a chance to interview you. i'm a
huge supporter of enmity! so give us a brief history of the band. and
how did you come up with the band name enmity?
Enmity: I'm really bad at remembering dates, so I'll just explain it
like this.
Chad and I wanted to create a band that would use the best parts of
death metal and grind. Put them together and push it's brutality and speed
as far as we could. We brought in allot of different musicians, but we
had to give them the boot because they were holding back the
progression of what we were trying to accomplish.
This sacrifice has let us create the music we like to play. However
we're unable to play shows at this time due to a member shortage.
We chose the name Enmity because We wanted a band name that best
described our feelings towards commercial music, and the fuckers who try to
hold us back.
2. enmity is a non stop ultra guttural brutal band!
describe enmity's sound in your own words! and why did you choose to
play this sick style of music?
Enmity: A wall of devistating brutality. We chose this style of music
because it's what we truely enjoy playing.
3. now the band includes only you and chad . you handle all the vocals
and do the drums as well.
and now you are looking for a full time vocalist to play shows correct?
tell us about the current status of enmity.
Enmity: Yes Enmity is Chad and I. We'd like to find a bassist and
vocalist. Not only to play out but as permenant members. Our current status:
We've just begun to write new material for another CD.
With or without a bassist or vocalist there will be another CD.
4. as for the new cd from permeated recs, that cd is one sick cd dude.
so how does the new cd's sound compare to previous stuff from amputated
vein recs?
and what are the big points you want to stress to us?
Enmity: The new CD Illuminations of vile Engorgement is our next step
in brutality. The new CD is all about blast beats and slow groovin
breakdowns with alot of fast double kick. The guitars are very fast, choppy
and brutal. The vocals are our lowest ever.
The production and sound quality of the new disc is far superior to
anything we've recorded in the past.
5. enmity has a 100% original sound. for instance your ultra sick down
tuned guitars and your ultra sick blast beats. i think enmity gets usa
disgorge's sound more brutaler and sicker than even disgorge does.
how did you come up with this sound and what bands influence enmity the
most to create them?
Enmity: Thanks! We just play what we love. There aren't really to many
angles of approach. Mainly be as brutal as we can be.
Our influences are the first couple or few CD's from: Gorguts,
Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Suffocation etc....
6. what kind of gear do you and chad use? and do you want to change your
sound in the future or leave it like it is now?
Enmity: Chad uses BC Rich and Ibanez guitars, EMG pickups, Marshall JCM
900 amps and cabs. Rob uses Pearl Masterworks drums, Sabian and
Zildjian Cymbals, Axis A-L Kick pedals, Axis kick triggers.
We plan to keep our sound the same and to improve only production
quality on every new CD.
7. disgorge, and devourment are big influence's for a lot of brutal
underground scene's and a lot of bands want to be like them. but i think
enmity also influence's tons of upcoming underground bands.
actually some bands i've interviewed say they are influenced by enmity.
what do you think about that?
Enmity: I'm blown away! One thing that I've always wanted to do is
influence the deathmetal scene to go in a more brutal direction.
8. what bands have you been into recently? and any sick new band's from
your state arizona?
Enmity: Psycroptic, Emeth, Decrepit Birth, Disgorge - USA, Stench of
Dismemberment.
I'm really only into extreme deathmetal. I haven't heard anything new
that I'm into from AZ.
9. how long have you been playing drums? and drummers influenced you ?
and when it comes to writing songs,
how does it work with chad the guitarist?
Enmity: I've been playing drums for around 11 years. Some of my
influences in deathmetal are Pete Sandoval, Stephane Provencher, Paul
Mazurkiewicz. Some other influences are Buddy Rich, Dave Weckl, Akira Jimbo, Marvin Smith.
Chad writes new riffs. We then go through the group and decide what to
keep.
We work on them with drums and tweak and arrange, tweak and arrange
until nothing else is needed.
10. you have really sick gutturals! any vocalists you learned how to do
them from?
and what does using guttural vocals mean to you?
Enmity: My first vocal attempt was trying to immitate Bill Steer of
Carcass and Chris Barnes of Cannibal Corpse. From there on I tried to make it as low and brutal as possible.
I enjoy doing vocals but it's not what I love to do.
I feel I'm a drummer first and would like to be able to focus all my
time there.
11. you heard of our japanese scene right? i guess you are good
friend's with keisuke from vomit remnants. any sick bands you know of?
disconformity is definitely worth checking out.
Enmity: I've talked with Keisuke in a few emails,
but I don't know him very well. To be honest Vomit Remnants is the only
Japanese band I listen to.
12. i love some brutal slamming bands like artery eruption,
disconformity, guttural secrete, and inhuman dissiliency . slam parts get me crazy
hehe.
so do you love to use them for enmity and love to see people get into
mosh pit's for your songs?
Enmity: Of course. That's why I miss playing shows so much. No better
feeling in the world than seeing a badass pit for your own music.
13. last question, what are the band's plans for the near future?
any releases or etc?
Enmity: We've just begun writing new music for our next CD. No idea on
the length of time it will take to write. But it's definately in the
works. We'll post any new infos on our website when they become
available. As for the new member thing... We're still trying peeps out. Anyone
intrested should contact us asap.
huge thanks for the interview. i really appreciate it. any comments, or
shout outs, or plugs you would like to add?
Enmity: Nahhh... Thanks for the Intie!
