Interview with Don of Digested Flesh
1. hey don.whats up? im pretty happy to interview you.first off tell
us the bands history and the current line up.
We're a brutal death metal band from New Jersey.
We released our first demo in 2002 and have since released a
full-length (04) and a split with Inhuman Dissiliency (06), both on Macabre
Memenots Records out of Japan. Our line-up is: Rob-Vocals, Nic-Drums,
Derek-Bass and Myself, Don-guitar.
2. i think digested flesh is the essence of slams and breakdowns.you
guys influence tons of bands playing this kinda style.so describe digested
fleshs own sound and what bands influence you guys to come up with the
current style?
We'll we do include slams in our music especially on the full-length,
but
we also have grooves and blast beats. Our newer material will have
more variations, of course we will still slam but we will have more of a
technical side as well. The bands that have inspired me as a guitarist
have been internal bleeding, devourment, dripping, grogasm and tons
more.
3. the band includes tons of slams and breakdowns remind me of the
mighty devourment.so who mainly creates those parts? and what bands did you
learn alot to create them?
On the full-length the riff writing was mainly done by me and Nic, our
drummer. On the split we all contributed to the song
writing which made the music more diverse. Now we are preparing for
our next release and the music is getting a lot better.
4. your state new jersey has many cool bands such as mortal
decay, dripping and recently waking the cadaver.so why have many cool bands emerged
from new jersey? and recently any new sick bands from there?
There is something in the water in New Jersey.
5. you are good frineds with dripping and waking the cadaver right? i
guess you guys have influenced each other at some points right?
We've known Seb from dripping for a long time and we've all jammed
together a couple times after Dripping borke up and before Digested Flesh
started. I am a big fan
of dripping so i'd have to say that they influenced my writing a bit.
We've only known Waking the Cadaver for a little over a year, but they
are really cool guys and they have a unique beatdown style to their
music. I love playing with them cause they have a great live performance.
6. i feel some hard core tastes from digested flesh.new jersey is also
well known for hard core especially beatdown style hard core.so the band
is influenced by this kinda music also?
I grew up listening to some hardcore so i can't say that i wasn't
influenced by it but it's not something we tried
to do. And i dont think you'll hear much of that on the next
full-length.
7. vocals are really lows.describe your vocals ...what kind of vocals do
you use and who influenced your vocals style?
We just asked rob to do his lowest gutturals that he could when he
tried out. He's more into old-school death metal and thrash so i think his
style is all his own.
8. the split cd with inhumandissiliency on macabre mementos recs is
awesome and masterpiece for sure.everyone should have it.so how is response
to it? and you think your bands sound changed from first album?
The repsonse to the split has been great so far. The style is a little
different on the
split so we get some fans who think the "all slams all the time" style
is better, but we believe that we have to grow as a band. So if you're
waiting for The Answer To Infection Part 2 don't hold your breath cause
the new shit is gonna be way better and faster and of course we'll have
plenty of
slams and grooves.
9. i have first demo.i think the band has progressed staright forward
to more sicker way rapidly since then.what happened to the band after
the demo?
its dramatic change for me. We just got better as musicians. We
practiced a lot and gradually got better. You can
expect better and better musicianship as our band progesses.
10. what kind of gears do you use? and how does writting songs work?
I use a Peavy Classic 50/50 rack mount and a line 6 POD pro rack mount
with an Ampeg 4x12 cabinet. Song writing is done collectively by the
band at practice. We have a full band practice once a week and we try to
get at least a
couple memebers together once a week to write riffs.
11. you guys have side bands besides digested flesh?
Nic is in a rock band called Spindle and Derek is also in a rock band
called the Invasion.
12. what bands have you been into recently?
Mortician, Despondency, Ghoul and Carcass.
13. thanks for the intie.tell us the futures plan like
releases, merch, shows and etc.and any last words you would like to add?
We're currently writing new material for our next full-length and
preparing for our European Mini-Tour this summer. Thanks a lot for the
interview!!
