Interview with Nick and Ian of Corpse Banger

1. hey nick!! whats up?? thanks for the intie bro.you are working on the new waking the cadaver album.before it gets done,i just decided to interview you for your side band corpsebanger.alright, tell us how the band started, the current line up,how you guys came up with the bands name and etc.i guess the band includes members of another new jersey band abacinate right?
Current band members are:
Ian Neal (vox)
Nick Palmateer (guitar/bass/vox)

Ian: The name of the band came from my online screen name, I've had since I was like 14 yrs old. Me and Ninja started jamming and called our "death metal" band CorpseBanger. We would jam with anyone who could play pretty much anything. Two years ago Me and Nick made it a serious sounding "side project" because he left his amp and his 7 string guitar at my house. We would just get really high and jam out and come up with sick titles for our songs and ideas. A couple months later we were jaming in a studio with some other likeminded sick individuals and the original band was born. It lasted about 5 or 6 months until we just kinda all moved on to other things. A couple months ago Ninja jumped on board and now we're just all about making heavy music that we like to hear, just having a good time.

2. tell us the bands sound and what bands can you compare the band with? and what major influences for corpsebanger?
Nick: Just your basic style of deathgrind mixed with slamming shits, I have no clue who to compare us to we just get really high and play. Definitely our major influences are Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Skinless, Suffocation, and our hatred for all human life.

3. the band for sure has some beatdowns and slams as well as you do for waking the cadaver? who makes them mainly and how does those parts you create differ from other slam style bands?
Nick: thats just sorta the style of music that i like to hear and write. you probrabally heard the old songs that your talking about all of the writting was done by me and Tom, but if you check out the new song vaginal blood farts the writting was done 50/50 by me and Ninja. Ninja wrote all the drums and I wrote a good majority of the guitar. i dont really think that were a slam style band we just really try to get high as hell and play some shits.

4. describe your guitar sound and how do your riffs in corpse banger differ from ones in waking the cadaver? and in general what bands influence your guitar sound?
the guitar sound is really shitty but were not trying to go for a hudge studio sound with the music. I think that the riff's are going to be a little similar because thats just the style that i play. Honestly the guitar sound in CorpseBanger is basically all the gain and distortion that the amp in the studio has cranked up to 10.

5. Ian,your vocal are so varied and i really love them.i guess you use some differnt vocals just like squeals, gutturals, hard core screams and etc.describe your vocals style.
Ian: I listen to a broad range of heavy metal music, I have alot of favorite vocalists and I guess I try use alot of different ranges that I've just learned from going to shows and screaming the words too much.

6. what kind of gears do you guys use? and how does writting songs work?
Ian: Anything that's left at the Keyport studio or whatever studio we end up at.

Nick: We basically just get there and immediately smoke mass quantities of marijuana. Ian drinks alot of beer. And we just start playing... and it's just whatever you get.

7. nick, the band was formed when you were in death to honor the previous band right? i know death to honor has both essences just like death metal and hard core.so hard core also influences corpsebangers sound? and what does hard core music mean for you and you still listen to this kinda music?
Nick: yeah the band was formed in 2005 and i was still in Death To Honor. we try to keep any hardcore influences out of CorpseBanger this is a strictly Death Metal band. Today i really don't even pay any attention to hardcore music, but i still listen to older bands like All Out War, and old Hatebreed.

8. what releases will you have? maybe do you have upcoming merch?
Ian: Look for at least a demo, that much is for certain. Most likely some type of a full length in the future. We most likely will end up doing some merch.

9. hows new jersey scene? any new sick bands? and you guys have more side bands?
Ian: The Jersey scene is pretty good, if you play to the right crowd it's a fucking blast. There's more and more heavy bands coming out, probably every day, some are really good. CorpseBanger is our only side project.

10. nick, what bands have you been into recently? and besides music whats your intrest in your daily life?
Nick: ive been listening to alot of Putrid Pile lately, and the new Dying Fetus, also some Abominable Putridity. besides music i smoke alot of weed and work a full time job.

11. tell us the bands plans for corpsebanger and waking the cadaver.and any last words you would like to add?
Nick/Ian: No plans really for CorpseBanger we really just plan to keep smoking weed and playing music. Waking The Cadaver is setting up some big plans towards the future and just keep an eye out. Kill them all...
