Interview with Julian from Blaze Inside
1. hey Julian! first of all give us a brief history of the band and tell us the current line up.
Blaze inside was born 2 years ago in Medell (Colombia), in the beginning we played some Gore metal mostly and in the process of the band's normal evolution, we made our music kind of like the edge of massive destruction, the current line up of blaze is: Damian (Vocals), John (Drums), Julian (guitar, chorus)
2. blaze inside sounds like a non stop blasting guttural band and you remind me of internal suffering, are you guys influenced by internal suffering by any chance? describe the band's sound and what bands influence blaze inside?
yes Internal Suffering is one of the most important bands in brutal death metal for us, the influences besides them are: Cryptopsy, Deeds of flesh, and Pustulated. the truth is that we don't sound like those bands but we enjoy listening to their sounds; blaze is a band of technicality and velocity.
3. how did you come up with the band name blaze inside? what's the meaning behind it?
Blaze inside means metaphorically, the congruence of the bodies with the universe, and the most brutal destruction, and literally blaze inside means BLAZE INSIDE.
4. blaze inside is a three piece band correct? you are the vocalist and the guitar player so is it hard for you to do both parts when playing shows? speaking of shows have you played any yet? how's the response to you when you play shows if you do?
Yes, we are a 3 piece and its not hard for me to do both things at the same time, it only requires more practice but i enjoy playing shows very much. on the 26th of November, we played in Bogota at Grind Death fest 4 which is maybe one of the most important fests in Colombia and South America so that was definitely killer and usually the response from people is really good when we play shows.
5. any favorite vocalists that have influenced you? and which do you like to do exhale gutturals or inhale gutturals?
one of my favorite exhale vocalists is Fabio from Internal Suffering. and as for inhale vocals i really dig Andres Usma from Pustulated.
6. the backup vocals are really sick high tone screams but who does them? and why do those type of vocals? i think your vocals combined with his vocals create a sick harmony.
To tell the truth I don't know how Damian makes those high pitch screams, I know that it isn't actually a scream but really just exhale gutturals, all the vocals in Blaze inside are exhale vocals, and yes we like to make some really sick harmony's.
7. what kind of gear do you guys use? and any favorite guitarists that influence you when it comes to creating riffs and etc?
Guitars: when playing shows I usually use Yamaha, but my favorites are the Ibanez guitars, distortion: Metal zoom, and graphic eq, drums: normal battery, twin pedal, Hi hat, a ride, two crashes, china, and a piccolo that sounds like dry wood, Vocals: all are done without effects. Favorite guitarist: cause there are so many good guitarists i really cant pick just one sorry.
8. the new cd will be out through mutilated records so how did you sign up with them and tell us a little about the new cd like when its out and what we can expect from the sound of the new cd.
a guy from mutilated records saw Blaze Inside perform and we liked him so the rest is history. Blaze is still working hard on the recording of our debut cd , we hope that it will be out within the first two months of 2006, it will definitely be some of the most brutal blasting twisted fucked up shit you'll hear next year.
9. how's the scene in colombia? any new bands or labels? grind syndrome records is a really good label and as for bands there's of course mindly rotten, inbreeding sick, carnivore diprosopus and etc. any more that i missed?
Colombia is a country with a sick metal scene so it's doing really good right now. I would like to say hi to the coffe axis (Caicedonia, Bogot And Medell), and thanks to syndrome records for showing us bands like Mindly Rotten, which is one of the best bands in Colombia actually, and there are plenty more bands.
10. the new cd's cover art will be done by tom from corpse carving and he is a sick ass artist! how's the cover art in your opinion?
tom understands the concept of Blaze Inside and he makes some brutal fucking art so we are really grateful to him, he's the best.
11. as of now you don't have a website. so we have to get all our info about blaze inside from the mutilated records website. you plan on getting up a website or putting songs on myspace.com at some point?
Our web site is still under construction so just wait for a few more days. at the moment if you want to know anything about us, you can write us at : obulanem@hotmail.com
12. as i said blaze inside play's non stop blasting guttural death but some bands from colombia like goretrade and carnivore diprosopus love the groove and slam style. do you guys think the band needs slam's and grooves along with blasting?
the slam and groove stuff is not necessary to us we just play the music which we carry inside of us and sometimes it's slam and groove stuff sometimes it's not.
13. what bands have you been into recently? and do you know of our japanese brutal death bands like vomit remnants, disconformity and etc?
of course, we know those bands and I listen to both.
14. I've heard some bands from colombia played in usa for a promotion, so do you want to promote the band in usa and play there? where are some other places you'd like to play?
we'd love to be able to promote our cd in the U.S and we'll play wherever people want us to destroy.
15. last question julian. what's the main goal of the band?
The main goal of blaze inside is to release our cd a.s.a.p. and to keep the band going for as long as possible
