Interview with Diego from Stench of Dismemberment

1. hey diego! what's up? why don't you start off by giving us a brief history of stench of dismemberment! how did it start and how did you come up with the band name stench of dismemberment?
Hey Seiji! This is Diego, how are you bro? thanks for writing....ok, lets start the interview! The band was born on October 2003 thanks to Antonio (drums), Vito (bass) and me (vox), because we all played together in PENIS LEECH (rip), we recorded 3 demo's with that band and we played some gigs before splitting the band. But we weren't going to stop playing the music we love and so we continued as a trio, to write new songs. After several searches, Gianfranco (guitar) joined the band on April 2004. Our band name was born on my proposal because we liked the idea to unite two strong feelings, olfactory and visual, in a situation of extreme violence. you could remain nauseated of it or inebriated ..ha ha! And because in our opinion it sounded sick!

2. the band sounds sick dude you guys create brutal and technical riffs much like disgorge and you mix them up with devourment style breakdowns. the band has both ultra blasting parts and slam parts and it's a great mix up if i say so myself but what do you think about your band's sound?
Hey thanks a lot for your killer words! We'd say exactly the same thing. Its what we wanted to create and its the mix we like: twisted and blasting brutality.

3. your vocals are like enmity and devourment. any fav vocalists that have influenced you? and which do you like to use inhale or exhale gutturals? and how do you want to improve your gutturals?
Thanks again for your compliments! My favorite vocalists are: Matti Way, Jamie Bailey, Rob Weber, Ruben Rosas, and many others. Usually I use to do exhale gutturals and I try to improve my gutturals by listening toÊmy favorite bands and singing on their tracks and practicing with my band too of course.

4. how long have you been doing vocals? and before doing gutturals, you tried to do old school vocals like suffocation or morbid angel right? and when and why did you start doing gutturals?
I've been doing vocals for about 7 years and in the beginning my vocals sounded like any ordinary old school death metal band...I started doing more guttural vocals when I heard "cranial impalement" and "molesting the decapitated" I thought these guys are so sick! And I love their vocal sound so I started improving myself and Im still working hard on improving my gutturals!

5. how's the scene in italy? i'm into the new vomit the soul cd a lot. other than that, i know of warload, gorefuck and etc. any new sick local bands you want to mention?
There are some good bands obviously and I really like Vomit the soul and Wargore especially. Then I'd say Natron, Corpsefuckingart, Nefas, Exhumer, Bastard saints, and Sudden death.

6. the new cd will be released through italian label permeated recs. so tell us about the new cd's soundÊ how you hooked up with them and etc.
Yes our debut mcd "cannibalistic urge" will be released under the Italian label Permeated records and will be out in November. The cd will contain 5 tracks. Our sound is a brutal mix of grind and slam sonorities influenced by band's such as Disgorge, Devourment, and Enmity. initially I came into contact with the guys of permeated records because they had my favorite band Enmity on their label... then i got to know Andrea better, one of the two bosses, and I understood that I was dealing with a serious person with a great passionÊfor this music with the same tastes and of our nationality... then he made us a good offer so it was easy to accept!

7. when it comes to writing songs, how does it work? and what bands influence you to create songs?
Our song writing is quite classic actually. Our guitarist and bassist create the main riffs then our drummer make's the drum tracks, then together we arrange the song until we're satisfied with it completely and I can do my vocal patterns. Everyone proposes his own ideas during the creation and the arrangement of the songs. It is sometimes a long trial, but actually this is our way to do it because in the past and for the mcd all music has been written and arranged by Vito, Antonio and me, except for the song "sexual organs removal" where Gianfranco has taken his part in the song writing.

8. what kind of gear do you guys use?
Gianfranco uses a 7 string Ibanez guitar and a Engl head, Antonio plays Tamburo drums, Yamaha pedals, Zildjian and Ufip cymbals. Vito plays a 5 string Modulus Graphite Quantum Wide, Aphex Big Bottom 1402 bass aural exciter and a Mark Bass Amplifier, and I use Shure microphones.

9. any sick new bands you have been into recently?
Recently I've been listening to Digested Flesh, Carnivore Diprosopus, Enmity, Brodequin, Wormed, Gutrot, Despondency and many others.

10. what do you care about the most when you create this type of music? gutturals, ultra down tuned guitar's, fast blastings etc?
I think everything you've mentioned is important for us too.

11. did any of the members play in other bands before starting stench of dismemberment?
As I said before Antonio, me and Vito played in Penis Leech together. I also did vocals for Natron during their scars over Europe tour 2004 (just to fill the temporary vacancy of their official singer) Vito also play's in Exhumer now and has played in the past with Natron too. He actually also play's in other bands in different genres and Gianfranco played in a domestic thrash death band.

12. what releases will you have besides the new cd through permeated recs? and tell us the bands plans for the near future?
Nope just our previous release bro! This mcd will be our debut release! Actually we're writing new songs and we hope to play live as much as possible and soon.

13. what do you think about our jpdm scene? any fav bands you want to mention here? how's the response to jpdm bands like vomit remnants and disconformity?
I know there are some good bands out there and Vomit Remnants is one of my favorite bands, I also know of Woundeep, and in the past I've listened to Intestine Baalism, I'll definitely check out Disconformity because I've heard nothing but good things about them.

14. ok last question, just for the hell of it who would you prefer to share the stage with suffocation or enmity?
Oh that's a hard question! Suffocation are legend's...and Enmity is my favorite band...so I'd have to say both!!! It could be great opening a gig for both!

thanks diego! any comments or shout outs or plugs you want to give?
Ok Seiji, thanks a lot for the interview! Your web zine is sick bro! support the underground and stay brutal! Horns up! Diego
