Interview with Steve the vocalist of Annotations of an Antopsy

1. hey bro thanks for doing this interview for my zine, first off give us a brief history of annotations of an autopsy like how did the band start and what's the current line up?
We started this year (2006) after a band me dan and jam were intogether split due to people wanting to go in different directions, so we went off and started writting as a 3 peice for a few months then we started trying out members for bass and rythem guitar. we went through a couple of possible guitarists and bassistsbut some were just not working out.
our current line up is
Steve - vocals, jamie - guitar, Al - guitar, Steve - bass, Daniel - drums

2. your sound is really diverse and pretty new to me the band has some melodic parts but there's some heavy breakdowns in there as well like the partisane turbine. so describe the bands sound and how did you guys come up with it?
We love bands like the partisan turbine and waking the cadaver. when we started writting we were trying to go for much more of a american style rather than the so called 'death metal' thats filling the airwaves in the uk with their tightjeans. We tried out different techniques that not alot of uk bands had grasped yet, im not saying were some groundbreaking new genre, we just wanted something a bit different to everyone else so our writting process became more technical and every single riff had to be analyised to make sure its what we were after.

3. what bands influence you guys a lot?
Some of the main bands are the partisan turbine, waking the cadaver, suicide silence, goratory, suffocation and immolation as well as some really brutal more underground bands such as intestional strangulation, disgorge, devourment, prostitute disfigurment ect ect

4. you use some low gutturals and squeals so why did you choose to use those kinds of vocals and what bands influence your vocals?
Well in my last band it was more of just the run of the mill metal screaming and i really didnt dig that, ive always loved really extreme vocals like the lows of disgorge and squeals by bands like WTC and some cephalic carnage. It just makes the whole thing much more brutal

5. the guitar sounds are really cool and as i said before there's some melodic parts mixed with the beatdowns so are there any other bands playing this kind style that your learned from?
We all love suicide silence so alot of people can prob hear that influence, they get a band name in the metal scene due to their popularity which is really stupid if you ask me, also Bands like defeated sanity's sludgy guitartones and slow riffs

6. as far as beatdowns go what bands do you guys emulate and how do you evolve there sound into something of your own? and what do beatdowns and slams mean for the band?
We dont really try to emulate anyone, we're influced by bands but never intentionally rip off a riff or drum pattern or anyting like that. were very tight on making sure we have no rip off riffs. Slams are just such a highlight to play live just to watch kids go off to them and just how heavy they are in drop A, were more about the slow chugging riffs rather than constant blasts

7. what kind of gear do you use?
We dont use any fancy guitar effects, we run peavy xxl's with just a noise gate to stop feedback, the distortion is all amp distortion. Drumwise dan uses tama setup with iron cobra pedels.

8. what releases do you plan to have in the near future and will there be any merch along with it?
Well were going into the studio in jan to finnish the ep then were releasing welcome to sludge city via this city is burning records in febtime in the uk and america. We shoul also have a whole new line of merch coming out with that too

9. how's the uk scene? are you guys in any other bands besides this one?
The Uk scene is very hit and miss, the metalheads, some shows will be amazing, some shows will be dire, our local area is amazing to play.
Im in a e-grind band called 'you look like a cunt', just making really fast grind and i make some drum n bass on the side, apart from that theres no other bands.

10. what are the bands plans for the future?
well once the ep is out we'll tour that with some of our label mates then we'll get to work on writting the full length which were really excited about, our label has opened up so many new opitunities for us and we're very happy with them guys! we owe josh and ryan alot!

thanks again for the interview are there any last words you'd like to add?
Yeah we'd just like to thank everyone whos embrace us and our music, the response to use has been overwhelming and we want everyone to know it means the world to us. and also Thanks to josh and ryan and This city is burning records for being some of the coolest guys ever and always helping us out in every situation! and a big thanks to waking the cadaver for bigging us up and getting us out to more kids! we're very greatful of everything!
